AUGUST 13, 2022 – NORFOLK, VIRGINIA – Close to 1,400 participants strutted their Old Dominion University pride at the Big Blue 5K presented by Bon Secours. Participants weaved their way through ODU’s campus and were cheered on by the ODU Football, Lacrosse and Volleyball teams. One of the highlights of the race was the finish line located on the 50-yard line of Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. The excitement continued as the Atlantic Bank Mortgage Company Tailgate Party kicked off with drinks, food and live music entertainment.
“Being back on the ODU campus for such a lively event supporting the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation (ODAF) and having multiple ODU athletic teams out here supporting our runners just always makes this event so special and one of a kind.” Says Co-Owner of J&A Racing, Jerry Frostick.
One participant mused “You couldn’t ask for a better day. The weather, the course, the people, the high fives from the football team. It has been a perfect day.”.
Ryan Carroll of Chesapeake, Virginia, won the Big Blue 5K with a finish time of 16:26. The winner of the 5K on the women’s side was Jo Reihner of Virginia Beach. She broke the tape in 18:02.
