SAN DIEGO, CA – February 14, 2022 – San Diego Running Co. has been busy as it eyes not only a full recovery from the COVID shutdown but a year of growth.
In January, they completed the acquisition of the San Diego Resolution Run 5K, 10K and Half Marathon. They held the event on January 22, 2022 at Mission Bay in San Diego with nearly 2,000 participants. The event celebrated its 15th year and was the first race in the City of San Diego for 2022.
And this month, they launched the Pacific Beach Half Marathon & 5K, set to take place on October 1, 2022. This will be the inaugural year for the half marathon and a re-brand of the 5K, formerly Pacific Beachfest 5K. The half marathon course will deliver 95% water views and an iconic finish right along the ocean in Pacific Beach.
But like the rest of the events industry, their decision to grow came on the heels of a challenging year.
“In the summer of 2021, while we were licking our wounds from a financially challenging 15 months, we never lost our focus,” said Eric Marenburg, Chief Running Officer for San Diego Running Co. “And that focus was to continue to grow in the San Diego community. That’s when the process began to deliver these two new events in 2022 under the San Diego Running Co. umbrella.”
San Diego Running Co. launched in 2013 and managed less than 1,000 participants that first year. 9 years and 1 pandemic later, they are projecting over 15,000 participants across their portfolio of events. But Eric is quick to point out that their impact does not stop there.
“Not only do we anticipate such strong participation, but we are projecting to raise over $250,000 this year in income for our various non-profit partners,” he said.
About Pacific Beach Half Marathon & 5K
The Inaugural Pacific Beach Half Marathon and the 10th Annual Pacific Beach 5K (formerly Pacific Beachfest 5K) will come to Pacific Beach in San Diego on Saturday, October 1, 2022. The Inaugural Pacific Beach Half Marathon is a point-to-point race starting at De Anza Cove in Mission Bay Park where runners will enjoy a scenic waterfront course for over 95% of the route. All participants in both races will receive a tank top, finisher medal, free post-race drink and chipped timed results.
