DENVER (Jan. 12, 2023) – Weather is one of the most-likely disruptions to all planned events and operations. Each year severe and other inclement weather cause delays, postponements, cancellations, injuries and even fatalities to participants, staff, volunteers and spectators.
How can you best be prepared? Give yourself a head start on improving your weather planning with an expert panel at the 2023 Running USA Industry Conference presented by Race Roster in Denver next month.
Representatives from Chicago Event Management (CEM) and the Disaster Science Operations Center (DSOC), located at Western Kentucky University, will discuss how to collaborate, plan for and monitor weather to improve safety and participant experience if and when disruptive weather strikes.
“Organizations managing events must have weather identified as a risk and adjust their planning based on the realistic assessment of historical and potential weather events and impacts,” said Michael Nishi, COO of CEM.
CEM has worked on severe weather planning strategy with the team from the WKU Disaster Science Operations Center. Professors Josh Durkee and David Oliver of WKU will join Nishi to talk about their findings and recommendations for events of all sizes.
“We look forward to this expert-level panel on an issue that every race or event, no matter where located or how many runners hosted, can identify with,” said Christine Bowen, COO of Running USA. “There will be actionable takeaways from this session that you won’t want to miss.”
