World record holder Marko Cheseto, who ran to the fastest marathon by a double amputee in Boston in 2019, will join them for an interview
(Jan. 15, 2022) – Running USA is excited to announce that podcasting brothers Aaron and Joshua Potts will bring their groundbreaking “2 Black Runners” podcast to the main stage at the 2022 Running USA Industry Conference presented by Race Roster.
The two middle distance athletes from Southern California bring their unique perspectives as young Black middle-distance runners in the sport to every single podcast episode. If you tune into their Tuesday show, you can expect to hear the two interviewing some of their favorite professional athletes, running legends, tastemakers in running, and runners making changes in the sport.
“I focus the majority of my free time trying to make running media better,” said Joshua Potts (pictured above, left). Currently an undergraduate student at Cal State Fullerton, he is not currently running competitively but has been immersed in the sport since age 5 and creating multimedia content about competitive running since his high school years.
His brother Aaron (pictured right) ran competitively for Azusa Pacific University and competed professionally for the HOKA Aggies for a time. In addition to his podcasting work, he currently works in marketing for HOKA ONE ONE/Deckers in Goleta, Calif.
As their featured episode guest at the event, the Potts’ will interview world-record holder Marko Cheseto in front of a general session audience.
Cheseto is a Kenyan All-American athlete who competed in track and field and cross country for University of Alaska Anchorage. Both of his feet were amputated above the ankles after he suffered extreme hypothermia in November 2011. In the aftermath of his cousin’s suicide, he went missing for 56 hours, suffering frostbite that led to the dual amputation.
In 2019, he set the marathon world record by a double amputee at the Boston Marathon. Cheseto was named the 2018 Challenged Athlete of the Year by the RRCA and has inspired the world with his continued dedication to running.
“We are thrilled to welcome Aaron, Joshua and Marko to the 2022 Industry Conference and showcase their contributions to raising visibility and interest in both track and field and running as a whole,” said Christine Bowen, vice president of Running USA. “Our goal is to elevate the content at every iteration of the conference, and we know this session will hit the mark!”
The Potts brothers will be introduced to the conference audience by Patrick Stiegman, Vice President/Editorial Director for Global Digital Content at ESPN.
