Expectations for the Future: Endurance Industry Survey Results
Nearly 400 endurance professionals express anxiety for the present and fear of future implications based on continued cancellation situations
(May 28, 2020) – Earlier this month, Running USA led an effort to assess the foremost concerns of endurance business owners as COVID-19 cancellations continue to wreak havoc on the industry.
As of late May, four months into the U.S. response to the pandemic, the outlook is not optimistic.
Nearly 400 endurance professionals responded to the Running USA survey, which was conducted in association with the Endurance Sports Coalition.
“Event professionals are facing tough realities right now, and those were fully brought to light in this survey response,” said Rich Harshbarger, CEO of Running USA.
As a result of lost revenue, more than 32 percent of respondents have laid off more than 40 percent of their staff. To date, 48 percent have been able to retain their employees – many with help from the federal Paycheck Protection Program.
