Seven nonprofits selected as first-ever recipients of new bi-annual program

BOSTON, Mass. – The Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation has announced that it awarded more than $20,000 to seven nonprofit organizations in the greater Boston area. These organizations provide programming to children focused on one or more of the Finish Strong Foundation’s mission elements: physical fitness, education and social-emotional learning. This first class of grant recipients for Spring 2024 includes:

     The Tierney Learning Center

     Youth Enrichment Services

     3Point Foundation

     Doc Wayne Youth

     Cambridge Basketball Lab

     Dreamfar High School Marathon

     Team Long Run

The grant program was launched earlier this year. In the spring and the fall, the foundation will award grants to organizations that share their mission to help youth discover a passion for running, reading and acts of kindness, leading to an increase in their self-confidence and self-respect. Applicants can request up to $5,000 to support programming. During this inaugural year of grant giving, the foundation is prioritizing organizations headquartered in New England or with significant impact in the New England region. Priority is also given to geographic areas with low reading scores and high poverty levels.

“Alongside our own signature programs, it’s important to our foundation to support other amazing organizations who share in our very special mission aimed at the most special people: kids,” said McGillivray, president of the Finish Strong Foundation. “We look forward to seeing these outstanding nonprofits give back to young people and inspire them to grow in their mental, emotional and physical strength!”

The Finish Strong Foundation has reopened applications for grants, and the next deadline for submission is Sept. 1. To learn more about the specific criteria for the grants and access the application, visit www.davemcgillivrayfoundation.org/grants.
