Quad City Bank & Trust (QCBT), along with partners from the Quad City Times Bix 7, United Way Quad Cities and Running Wild will distribute free running shoes to 5th and 6th grade students from Madison Elementary School at their graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 30th at 9am and 10:30am, respectively. The ceremony will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, located at 2136 Brady St., just across from Madison.
The shoes are being provided through a recently announced grant from QCBT through a partnership with the Quad-City Times Bix 7 to benefit students and families of Madison Elementary School in Davenport. Through this generous donation from QCBT, all students currently enrolled at Madison Elementary and their siblings ages 12 and under will receive free registration to the Arconic Jr. Bix on Friday, July 26th at 6pm.
Approximately 130 5th and 6th grade students who will all be transitioning schools next fall will receive a new pair of running shoes. Staff from Running Wild made two trips to Madison to personally fit each 5th and 6th grade student for the shoes. This special gift will commemorate their completion of elementary school and encourage running and a healthy lifestyle as they continue to grow and mature.
“We are so touched and can’t wait to see the smiles on the kids’ faces when they not only graduate from elementary school, but also walk out of the ceremony with a brand new pair of high quality shoes,” said Laura “Divot” Ekizian, President and Chief Relationship Officer at QCBT. “We look forward to having as many of these kids as possible participate (most for the first time) in the Arconic Jr. Bix on Friday, July 26th at 6pm. We hope this instills a lifetime love of running and fitness,” said Michelle Juehring, Bix 7 Race Director.
