The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure (RTO) is a one-of-a-kind relay from Reno to Lake Tahoe and back to Reno making a 178-mile loop around the Reno-Tahoe region. The relay starts along the Truckee River in downtown Reno, passes into California through Truckee, Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe, Genoa, Carson City and Virginia City before returning to Reno, Nevada. You get mountains, lakes, meadows, historic sites and more!
The RTO is always the Friday and Saturday following Memorial Day Weekend. In 2024, teams start on Friday, May 31, run throughout the night and finish the next day on Saturday, June 1. Start times are staggered on RTO Friday depending on your team’s projected total time to complete this relay.
The course is divided into 36 legs, with each leg averaging about 5 miles. The maximum number of runners that you may have on a team is 12 with each person running 3 legs. Some “ambitious” people run as ultra teams of 6 or less.
We cap the RTO field for quality and safety reasons and we DO sell out. Our goal is to create an amazing experience, something that you will want to do again and again.
