WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The Air Force Marathon, in conjunction with four other service-level armed forces road races, announced the creation of the Armed Forces Series Challenge at the marathon’s Finish Line Festival on Sept. 16.
The challenge involves completing the Air Force Marathon, Army Ten-Miler, Coast Guard Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon and Space Force T-Minus 10 Miler, which are held from April to December each year.
For maximum flexibility, the races do not need to be finished within a certain time window. Participants will be awarded an Armed Forces Series Challenge medal upon completion of the final race.
“We had the idea to create this series because we want everyone to experience all of the armed forces races,” said Rachael Ferguson, the Air Force Marathon director. “What better way to celebrate the joys of running and our men and women in uniform at the same time?”
Interested competitors can register beginning Jan. 2 on the Armed Forces Series Challenge participant portal. This portal will be accessed through each event’s website. Although runners must sign up for the challenge through the portal, they will need register for each event separately.
“Each branch of the armed forces has a unique character and distinguished tradition that is exemplified by their corresponding service-level running events,” said Alex Hetherington, Marine Corps Marathon director. “This is your opportunity to run with purpose, finish with pride and earn the distinction of receiving the Armed Forces Series Challenge medal.”
